White Ribbon
November 25 is White Ribbon Day, a cause dedicated to the prevention of violence against women.
We would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support this year. We are delighted to announce that in November 2011, we raised in excess of $140,000 from the sale of ribbons, wristbands and enamel pins.
Suzanne Grae is proud of the Community Partnership with White Ribbon. We have raised a significant contribution over the past year, thus far equating to over $270,000.
About White Ribbon
Anywhere from one-quarter to one-third, and even up to one-half, of Australian women will experience physical or sexual violence by a man at some point in their lives. White Ribbon is working to end this widespread and serious human rights abuse by developing education and awareness programs to promote culture and behaviour change in our society.
The Campaign is supported by thousands of Australian women, who are the main purchasers of White Ribbons and the beneficiaries. White Ribbon was established in July 2007 by UNIFEM Australia to allow for future growth and program work to take place. The White Ribbon Campaign is part of an international movement, originating in Canada in 1991 on the 2nd anniversary of one man's massacre of 14 women in Montreal. In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared November 25 the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW) and the White Ribbon has become the symbol. In New Zealand, we support White Ribbon with all funds raised going to National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges Inc. For information go to www.refuge.org.nz
