The White Ribbon Campaign is working to end this widespread and serious human rights abuse by developing education and awareness programs to promote culture and behaviour change in our society.
The Campaign is supported by thousands of Australian women, who are the main purchasers of White Ribbons and the beneficiaries. The White Ribbon Foundation was established in July 2007 by UNIFEM Australia to allow for future growth and program work to take place.
The White Ribbon Campaign is part of an international movement, originating in Canada in 1991 on the second anniversary of one man’s massacre of fourteen women in Montreal. In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared November 25 the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW) and the White Ribbon has become the symbol.
Suzanne Grae staff are proud of the Community Partnership between White Ribbon and Suzanne Grae. Through the sale of White Ribbons instore and conducting a number of fund raising initiatives, we are providing funding for an education programme called 'Breaking the Silence' which takes the anti-violence message to schools and supports respectful relationships programmes.
